IR:Detroit #22: The Pilz!!
Back again for another interview with a great Detroit band, The Pilz! I had the pleasure of sitting and talking with 3 of the 4 members of the band a couple months ago and had some interesting discussions!!
These guys are great live - check them out if you’re in the Detroit area!!

Insomnia Radio #159: FU Robot
The year is obviously 2008, not 2005 as the evil announcer at the show header describes. Yes, as you will quickly notice, there is some sort of robotic, computer, and videogame nerdery meshed together unseamlessly in this episode, gladly supplied by this uber-geek.
Seriously, we’ve got some great tracks and a few appearances by DJ’s from last month’s New Media Expo in Las Vegas, not to mention two artists have blood and sun in their names; what are the chances, and could that be an ominous sign? Enjoy and as usual, please help support all the hard-working artists below.

IR: The Winter Sounds - Drive to Athens
We recently received a message from one of our favorite bands here at Insomnia. Patrick Keenan of The Winter Sounds wanted to proudly share one of the new tracks they just recorded over at Cacophony Recorders in Austin, and rightly so. Pinebox is the name of this beautiful new track and is now being released on a 3 song EP before the band makes it way to Athens in October and November to start afresh on their next full length album.
The band would really appreciate any donations or EP purchases to help them make this goal, so they can rightly sink their heart and soul into the creation of the next full length we are all eagerly anticipating.
Purchase links and donation information is location at their website: thewintersounds.com

IR SoCal Presents: The Living Suns
This last week I was invited out to the Viper Room on Sunset to witness a live performance by the Fullerton, OC based independent rock six-piece, The Living Suns.

The Living Suns combine a mixture of progressive and psychedelic rock, a throwback to specific bands from the 60s/70s, although their sound is composed with a bit of modern flair as mirrored by some groups on their varied influences list (at their website). You could make comparisons using the many familiar sounds spread throughout their arsenal, but ultimately their unique style stands strong, cemented via a wide range of sound palettes, forged into a unique vibe TLS can proudly call their own.
Upon exiting the venue, I was able to snag their keyboardist, Lucas Drake, away from the post-show madness for a few minutes. He was kind enough to tell us candidly about a few of the songs on their debut “Self” titled full length which came out early this year.
Songs Featured: Man in the Middle, Downers and Ditches, 1,000 Ways to Use a Dollar
Purchase Links: CD Baby, e-music, iTunes
Special Thanks: Bill Bennett (TLS Management)
Also of Note: TLS has just finished a brand new quality video for Man in the Middle, which you can find here. It was directed by Nate Miller, produced by Jeremy Schott with photography by Jean Paul Bonnea. It rocks, in slow motion.

Mixtape: Shoreline Sirens [Side A]
On July 19, 2008 an incredible selection of musical talent assembled under the shadow of the famed eighty-one year old Cyclone rollercoaster at the storied community of Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York.
This mixtape is a salute to the Siren Music Festival put on by the Village Voice, a free all day/all ages music celebration that got its start in 2001 as a way to help revitalize this historic community and celebrate the Voice’s coverage of local & national music.
We’ve graciously had one of the photographers at the event, Josh Kuckens, offer up a few images to be posted here, this specific image being “Film School”, an artist from both San Francisco & Los Angeles.
Make sure to check out the rest of his photos, including a full sized version of this one, here. Also you can check out side B of this mixtape over in our festival comp. section.

Insomnia Radio #158: The Coffee Break
Today we bring you what they call in your country, ‘The Coffee Break’. Its a nice assortment of different sound selections starting off a heavier note and gradually ending at a light-hearted party somewhere in Spain, straight out of something that belongs on the 80’s Something Wild Soundtrack.
As usual we are all over the regional board although mostly in the US this time around. We take you from Texas (Austin, Dallas), California (Half Moon Bay, San Francisco, Long Beach, Irvine), Washington (Seattle), Pennsylvania (Philadelphia), Minnesota (Minneapolis), and of course Spain (Valencia).
Enjoy, and don’t forget to grab an extra cup on your way through!
